Capturing Other’s Attention

In this term you will review the lessons and practice a lot about using expression of attention, necessity, and expectation in written dialogues, composing the expressions based on its context or situation with appropriate grammatical features and building vocabulary to understand reading comprehension in written dialog.
Attention is an expression to make someone notice you or watch, listen to, or think about something or someone carefully or with interest. This expression can be related to other expressions such as necessity and expectation based on its context.
Necessity is an expression which means that if you really need to do something, you will think of a way of doing it while the expectation is an expression when you expect good things to happen in the future. It has a positive intention.
Now, let’s practice more about using those expressions in different context.

Reading

Read the following dialogs to get the main idea of the dialog and its information details in stating attention, necessity, and expectation.
Kent : Hey, look! This book tells that a lot of schools in the UK are not teaching grammar nowadays.
Brian : Really?
Kent : Yes. It is almost same with in Indonesia.
Brian : I don’t think so. Some teachers keep teaching grammar, especially the old teachers. That’s fact.
Kent : Yeah… but my aunt ever told me that in the curriculum the materials not focus on grammatical features but genre of texts
Based on the conversation, the speakers are talking about the curriculum which is different with in the UK. In this context, Kent says “Hey, look!” to get Brian’s attention. Then, Brian gives response by saying “Really?”. This situation shows an attention. Now, let see another dialog to integrate between expression of necessity and expectation in the same context.
Tata : Halo, Tata’s speaking. Who’s this?
Okky : Hi, Tata. This is Okky. Do you mind if I borrow your Math book?
Tata : No, I don’t mind.
Okky : Thank you. I miss the class for a week because of dengue fever.
Tata : Ah, I’m sorry to hear that. How do you feel now?
Okky : I feel better now, but the doctor told me that I must see the doctor tomorrow 
for checking up again.
Tata : I hope you will get well soon and back to school.
Okky : I hope so.
The conversation above is using expression necessity and expectation. Now, try to answer the following questions based on the conversation above.

Question number one is asking about main idea of the conversation. To find the main idea you can read the first or second sentence of the conversation. Based on the conversation, Okky wants to borrow Math book because he missed the class. Then, the next question is asking about the meaning of underlined words. The underlined words mean that it is necessary to see the doctor to see his health is going better or not. And then, the last question is asking about Tata’s expectation. You can see that Tata hope Okky will get well soon so he won’t miss the class anymore.

In this part, you will hear a conversation between man and woman then answer the following questions:
