Contoh Soal Review , Agreeing vs DisagreeingIn this lesson we will recall what we have learned before – agreeing and disagreeing expressions. When we state an agreement, it means that we agree to the idea or opinion of someone we are talking to. On the other hand, when we express a disagreement, it means we have different idea/opinion with someone we are talking to.
To express an agreement to someone’s idea/opinion, we can use the following statements:
  • That’s a good idea.
  • Absolutely.
  • Indeed.
  • You are right.
  • I think so.
  • It is true.
  • Yes, of course.
  • I agree with you.
  • No doubt about it.
  • I was just going to say it.
  • That’s for sure.
  • That’s exactly how I feel.
To express a disagreement, we use the following expressions:
  • I don’t think so.
  • I disagree with you.
  • That’s not right.
  • I’m not sure about that.
  • Absolutely not.
  • I totally disagree.
  • I’m afraid I can’t agree with you, Sir.
  • I am of different opinion because....
  • I have my own thought about that. etc

Do you understand?

Now we will see more examples on dialog in which people express their agreement and disagreement.

Tina : You’re right. Nina has not got ones. I’m sure she will need them.

Tomi : That’s right, Arif. Ariel’s voice was rather out of tune last night. May be he was not feeling well.
Situation 3 : Tina and her father are talking about the headline in the newspaper.
Tina : Look at the headline. It is still about the smog in Riau and in the other cities.
Father : The government must do something about it.
Tina : They have tried to solve the problem, Dad.
Father : I don’t think so. The smog must have been clear if it has been solved.
Tina : I think anyone who set the fire must be given a severe punishment.
Father : That’s right. They must be put in jail and pay a big amount of money
