Contoh Soal Review , Caption in Various ContextsCaptions are mostly supposed to draw the viewers’ attention, thereby making attractive and effective caption is a need. There are at least two important considerations when making captions, namely conciseness and relevance.
Conciseness: the caption expresses what needs to be said without unnecessary words.
Relevance: the caption relates to the text and picture to guide the viewers to the content of the media.
As in any other written expression, the etiquette in captioning should also follow the standard grammatical rules. Derivatives and noun phrases are ones of grammatical features commonly found in captions. Derivation is forming new words from the existing root word and often involves the addition of prefix-affix such as pre-, –ness, un-, -tion/-ation, -sion, -ure, -al, -ment and so on.
One of the grammatical features that often find in captions besides derivatives is noun phrases. A noun phrase is a phrase with a noun as the head word. The head word is modified by some adjectives, adverbials, other nouns, or articles called modifiers.
