###Language Features of Debates
The one thing that is about to be discussed in this lesson is related to the art of persuasion. As you may have learned, the expressions of persuasion are expressions aimed to persuade someone to believe or to do something. The chance of persuading someone often occurs in an open discussion or arguments, where there are pros and cons about the topic being discussed. That formulates a debate.
Debate is a formal argument, a structured discussion in which opposing sides of views presents their arguments. Debate has a number of benefits; some of these examples can give you a picture what debate has to offer:

The example for the topic being discussed should be provided, and it is more reliable if it did really happen in your surrounding or from personal experiences. In the beginning, you are also allowed to define the topics if necessary. - Mention some common sense
The common sense in this context means everything that everyone knows, or at least you think that everyone knows. - Provide experts’ opinions
The opinions from experts are usually based from the findings or research. So it is a dependable argument that can support yours. - Present statistics data
You may also present your arguments with some statistics. Statistics is the data taken from research to support the given arguments.
