What is announcement?

Announcement is a formal public declaration about fact, something has happened, or something will happen which is said, written, or printed and has a purpose telling information to people. We can also say that announcement is a notification about something.

The Characteristics of Announcement

The announcement is:

• Informative
  Giving fact or information about something.
  Example : Announcing an event (flag ceremony, Kartini Day, etc), announcing the recruitment of Student Association, etc.
• Persuasive
  Persuading about certain act
  Example : Announcing that the school will join “Green School” Competition. The students are persuaded to throw the rubbish in the trash bin.

• Train station
• Bus station
• Mall
• Other public places

Generic Structure

An announcement is commonly consists of 4 points. They are:

1. Title 
   Title contains the main topic of the announcement. It is stated the purpose of the announcement.
2. Content
   It contains detail information about the announcement such as : date, time, place, participants, etc.
3. Closing 
   It contains the additional information about the announcement. For instance, stating the contact person of informing sender.
4. Informing Sender
   Informing sender is the same with writer of the announcement. It tells the reader where the announcement came from.

To show you the points, please read the following example!

The annoncement uses:

• Simple Present Tense
• Simple future tense (for the upcoming event)
• Imperative sentence
