Contoh Soal Grammar Focus , (will, be going to, would like to) - In the previous lesson, you have learned about how to state and ask intention. Among the phrases you can use to state your intention, there are will and be going to. Can you tell when do we use will? And when do we use be going to?
We can sometimes use will and be going to in exchange without making any difference. However, they often express different meanings. We use will and be going to to tell a plan for a specific time in the future.
When do we use will?
- We use will to tell that we plan to do something at the time of speaking.
“What would you like to eat, Miss?”
“I will have tuna sandwich, please.”
or
“Did you leave your book in the classroom?”
“I think I did. I will come back to take it.”
- Will is usually used when we make a promise.*
“What time is the school graduation party?”

- Will is also used to predict something in the distant future.

When do we use be going to?
- We use be going to to talk about something that we have planned.
“Have you seen Inside Out?”

- Be going to is also used for prediction in the near future. We use be going to because there are signs about it.
