In this lesson, we are learning the generic structure and language features of news anchor scripts.
Here is the generic structure of news anchor scripts:
- What. News anchor scripts inform the listeners what happens, what the event is.
- When. News anchor scripts inform the listeners when something occurs/is occurring/has occurred. It may include the day, date, and time.
- Where. News anchor scripts inform the listeners the place where something happens.
- Who. News anchor scripts inform the listeners the person(s) involved.
- Why. News anchor scripts inform the listeners the reason why something happens.
- How. News anchor scripts inform the listeners the sequence of an event.
Language features of host scripts mostly use the Present Tense. The news scripts can be in:
- Simple Present Tense (Subject + Verb1(+s/+es) + Object)
- Present Continuous Tense (Subject + is/am/are + Verb-ing)
- Present Perfect Tense (Subject + has/have + Past Participle)
- Present Perfect Continuous Tense (Subject + has/have been + Verb-ing).
- Use the Future Tense when it is appropriate (Subject + will/would +Verb1).
- Use the Past Tense when it is appropriate (Subject + Verb2 + Object).
- Use the active voice when emphasizing the doers and use the passive voice (Subject + is/am/are/was/were + Past Participle) when emphasizing the objects.
