WRITING A DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
In writing a descriptive text you should remember the goal of the text, which is to give information about a specific entity. You can also try to use several tips below:
- You should be able to make the readers imagine what it feels like—the situation, if you are describing a place. That can be achieved by using suitable and understandable adjectives.
- You ought to give some interesting additional information about the thing or the place that you are describing.
- You can make some interaction with the readers.
- You can also use noun phrases to make your writing become easier to read.
NOUN PHRASES
To make our descriptive texts become better—more interesting, more efficient, and more understandable, we can maximize the use of noun phrases in our texts.
A noun phrase is a group of words with a noun or pronoun as its head.
The simplest one is by adding another word such as determiners “a” or “the” like in “the book”. We can also put some possessive adjective such as “my” or “our” in “our school”. You can also combine a noun with an adjective to form a noun phrase such as “The delicious pizza”, and in a more complex use of noun phrase is by adding some connectors to a sentence. Look at the example below:
- It is beautiful.
- That view from the top of the mountain is beautiful.
