Contoh Soal Preparing Debate Scripts for Competition - The debates you heard at the beginning of the lesson are common debate and debate for competition. You can hear the first type in almost any conversation that allows people to state their opinions and arguments about something. The example was a debate about which superhero is the coolest one. The second debate, however, is not commonly found anywhere but in an official English Debating Competition. The speaker is the first speaker of the negative team that presents a rebuttal for a motion: parents should be responsible for their child’s law violation.
In this topic, you will practice how to prepare debate scripts for competition. In the real time and event, a debater won’t have much time to write a complete script before performing. Rebuttals, on the other hand, will have to be prepared while the opponent team performs. A combination of reading, listening, and writing skills will need to be integratedly used only in a limited time. This is of course uneasy for junior debaters or starters.

Ladies and gentlemen, members of the house, we believe that every creature has the right to live freely. Animals are not exceptional. They also have the right to live freely without being caged and used as an entertainment. Thus, we support this debate’s motion: this house would ban zoo, all zoos. Many of us may have watched Madagascar movies. I believe that most of us find the movie hilarious and entertaining. Yet, the movies are not only entertaining. The movies also reflect how animals would live happily if they can live in the open, not behind the bars. I have one argument that will support the banning of zoo. My argument is related to the right of animals. I cannot neglect that animals are edible and can be consumed by human being. However, it doesn’t mean that all animals can be consumed by us. Animals are categorized into wild animals and farm animals. Unlike farm animals which can be consumed and bred by human, wild animals should live in the open. They cannot be consumed and cannot be bred by human. All animals in zoo are wild animals, not farm animals. Hence, they have to live in the open.
