Contoh Soal Expressing Opinions in Problem Solving

Contoh Soal Expressing Opinions in Problem SolvingIn the previous lesson, you have learnt how to ask for someone’s opinions. Before we start this lesson, let’s refresh your memory first because this lesson will be related to the one that you have learnt previously.
Can you guess what topic that you are going to learn in this lesson?
Do not answer that yet. Let’s focus first on what you have learnt previously: asking for opinions in problem solving. What will you say when you want to ask your friend’s opinion about how to get a new jacket without spending too much money? You really need a new one but there is not much left in your savings.
  • Do you know where I could buy a new jacket in a cheaper price?
  • What do you think about buying a local brand jacket?
  • Do you think buying a jacket in sale is a good idea?
The first statement is asking for suggestion about where to buy a jacket. So, it is considered as the most appropriate expression to ask for your friend’s suggestion, not your friend’s opinion. Now, let’s pay attention to the second statement. What is your view? Is it the appropriate statement to ask for opinion?
One of the expressions that you can say to ask for someone’s opinion is, “What do you think about ….?” Thus, the second statement is an appropriate sentence that you can say when you want to ask your friend’s opinion about your new jacket.
Now, if someone asks you about something and you have to give your opinion about what they ask you, especially when they have problems, how will you respond? What will you say to express your opinion on something? In this lesson you are going to learn about expressing your opinions in problem solving.
Take a look at the examples below. Pay attention to what they say when giving their opinion.

Do you understand?

Example 1

Rama : [Raise his hand]
Teacher : Yes, Rama. What would you say about the critiques on the drama?
Rama : In my opinion, the story represents our world today where many people do not seem to care about what happened to the world that they live in.
Example 2
Wina : Hey, our school is going to hold a music festival this year, after the national examination. But I heard that the committe needs lots of help for fundraise. What do you think?
Eri : Well, if that’s true, I think that the most effective way to raise the fund quickyly is through contacting alumni and request their support. The support is not given for free but with a compensation such as helping the alumni’s work or study as volunteers or interns.
